Giulia Di Girolamo

For her Thesis Project, Giulia has designed a tiny home showroom, an educational facility that will promote and educate users on tiny homes. This project was designed through research that investigated design factors and strategies in educational showrooms. She is driven by passion and her love for design. She is determined to create a collaborative and interactive space. Giulia’s interest in tiny homes has influenced her thesis project.

Project Overview

This Tiny Experience showroom is an educational facility that will promote and educate users on tiny homes. This showroom will be an interactive and collaborative space that will allow users to explore the use of tiny homes. Users can experience the showroom through the implementation of technology. This facility will allow users to gain a better understanding and become more knowledgeable about Tiny Homes. The materials used within this space are very neutral, with light colors and warm tones to make the space warm and inviting.

Concept Development.

Concept/Design Process

My concept for the tiny experience was to include grids, in combination with overlapping and creating layers. I decided to explore a tiny home space and how different zones overlap one another. In a small space like a tiny home, many spaces overlap and are multi-purposeful. Within the showroom, I wanted to create spaces that would showcase layers and multipurpose spaces.

Site Plan/Floor Plan(s)

My main goal was to create a main focal point for the prototype model in the center. Around the center focal point, different spaces have been overlapped to make the space functional, engaging, and accessible. The second floor was designed with the same parameters, but the main difference is that most of the spaces are open to below which allows the users on the second floor to understand and recognize the activities happening below. The location of this facility will be held at 21 Ossington Ave, Toronto.

Sections/Elevations

The prototype model is in the center of the space on both floors. These sections help to show the connection between both floors. The integration of this space was used to help users experience the showroom. This prototype model is in the center of the showroom helping users to understand and explore the space on both floors.

3D Views

The interior spaces are inspired by a neutral material palette. The light finishes, and warm wood tones create a light and airy environment that is warm and inviting. The interior spaces encourage exploration of networking and collaboration and the implementation of technology. Acoustical ceiling panels have also been considered in the spaces to help reduce noise in the open concept floor plan.
