Fraida always had a passion for artistic and creative things and always enjoyed designing homes. She has two certificates related to Design and Architecture and now a BA in Interior Design. Fraida loves designing evidence-based design spaces that can alter mental and physical health and enjoys designing environmentally friendly structures.
Project Overview
Halcyon Stays is a luxury boutique hotel for business travellers that focuses on the wellbeing of its occupants. Business travel is a significant cause of mental and physical illness, and Halcyon Stays uses many specialized approaches to achieve wellness and reduce the stresses that come with travel.
Concept/Design Process
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy that believes nature and the five elements can create a balanced built environment. The five elements and yin-yang principles are interwoven into the Bagua map and are the foundation of Feng shui. All of these ideologies create harmony within our environment.
Site Plan/Floor Plans
Halcyon stays is located in an amazing area for a hotel. It is in an up-and-coming area, and the neighbourhood has new bars, shops, restaurants and businesses moving in. Halcyon stays is also located close to many parks and the water, which has been proven to enhance our wellbeing. On top of that, to help take away some of the stresses, the hotel guests have access to parking, a private shuttle, and even has a car rental place just across the street.

Sections
The section demonstrates the volume of the space and shows the relationship between the ground floor and the lower level. The lobby, bar, restaurant, and business center are around the mezzanine overlooking the four soaking pools, giving the ground floor a feeling of luxury and a sense of relaxation.

Halcyon Stays is designed to create a welcoming environment by using many neutral tones and implementing biophilic design. All of the materials and features used relate to feng shui and the five elements.
