Hi! My name is Tofunmi. The field of interior design has always captivated me due to my passion for artistic expression, visual appeal, and the ability to craft functional spaces. This thesis project holds significant personal value as it draws upon my experience adapting to another country. My experiences aided my design decisions, resulting in the creation of inclusive, cozy, and functional spaces for individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
This project focuses on new immigrant women and their transition into their new life in Canada. Moving to a new country can be an overwhelming experience, and having spaces designed to support and facilitate the transition can make a significant difference. Creating welcoming, comfortable, and functional spaces for new immigrant women helps them feel more at ease and connected to their new surroundings. This project will help them by incorporating elements from their culture into the architecture of the space, giving a sense of familiarity and connection.
Balance serves as the foundation for this thesis research. By contrasting the past lives of immigrant women with their current experiences in Canada, a harmonious and cohesive space is created.
The floor plan's application of balance is in creating a safe, friendly, and comfortable atmosphere for new immigrant women to access services and resources for their physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being.
The centre provides a variety of services, including a library , access to community programs and events, as well as a quiet space and a gym. By providing a variety of services and resources specifically designed for new immigrant women, the centre can address the unique challenges and needs of this population and serve as a hub for community support and advocacy, thereby promoting the health and well-being of women and their families.
