Concept/Design Process

This hostel aims to bring Bleisure travellers together to socialize and connect. By incorporating and taking inspiration from successful and unique elements of Toronto's street culture and the urban and design network of the city, the hostel will be able to create a unique and memorable experience for travellers. The use of organic and geometric forms specific to Toronto's urban landscape will create a visual representation of the hotel's flow, making the design more impactful & meaningful, and seamless.

By doing this, the hostel will be able to foster a sense of community and connection between travellers, creating a space that promotes well-being. The Parti Diagram is based on the overall urban structure of Toronto. The heart of Toronto is left to be abstract since everyone has a different interpretation of what they consider to be the heart of the 6ix.

The Chill Area focuses on socializing and connecting locals and guests. Our goal is to create a space where locals and guests can socialize and relax, thereby creating a lasting connection. Modular furniture, green walls, and an interactive lighting fixture allow guests to blow from one end and light up the space. This lighting installation creates an environment of interaction between people in the space.

The Gender Neutral Dorms focus on providing guests with a relaxing and comfortable sleeping environment. A neutral color scheme was chosen to create a space that anyone can sleep in without feeling discriminated against because of their sex, gender, age, or religion. Last but not least, the Meeting/Event Space was designed based on Trinity Bellwoods Park. This space focuses on having an outdoor environment indoors while creating an informal meeting/event space for both locals and guests to use.
