I have always been attracted to the celestials, they are something that is always present in our lives yet very distanced from us. As I grew up, looking at either day or night sky became a habit, which is also why I chose this topic for my thesis project.

Project Overview

Lakeshore Planetarium is a project designed to bring the inspiration of astronomy closer to the masses. Meeting society's demand for astronomical knowledge acquisition.

Concept/Design Process

To inspire people with something, we have to bring it closer to the human eye in an abstract way. So what is present everywhere in the universe but we cannot reach? They are the color spectrum, gravity, and space itself, represented by humankind's space grid. For that reason, this planetarium's immersive technologies will focus on visual perception.

The mission of a planetarium is to bring knowledge about nature to people, so the method I use to do so is to use the natural form to discover the project. The forms are studied on paper - a material that is soft enough to feel natural yet firm enough to hold its own structure. Creating paper sculptures gives me the ability to manipulate the form of inspiration.

Site Plan/Floor Plan(s)

The project consists of 3 important spaces telling a space travel story. The reception is like a portal that transports us from our world into space. The 2nd part will be about how we are in space, and how we locate ourselves in this eternity. And the last part is for the staff. The idea is to construct a base on a planet so that people can dwell in it. The office will have an earthy characteristic to remind us of where we come from infused with where we are.

As noted above. These three inspirations for creating this space have been combined to create an experience that feels like we are living in the universe. Gravity and Space Grid are combined to create a frame and all stories will take place inside this space. The Color Spectrum is the highlight of space, leading us through celestial bodies, telling a story of an adventure.
