Chocolate Practices Educational Centre. A place designed to enhance Education, Networking and Public Awareness regarding the Chocolate Industry. A built environment created for chocolate students, professionals and enthusiasts.
The idea of exploring Contrasting Elements was not only inspired from the different kinds of chocolate, but also from the chocolate industry, which can be quite contradicting within itself. Because even though chocolate is such a famous sweet, the industry can be quite bitter. That is why this project seeks to increase Public Awareness regarding the several sustainable, social and economical issues related to chocolate.
Through the creation of a built environment that supports Education and Network, by providing users with the alternatives to utilize spaces such as an Exhibition Lounge and a Chocolate Cafe, as well as a Chocolate Store and a Bean-to-Bar Chocolate School.
This project contains two levels. The first level (ground floor) is open to the public. It is where people can buy chocolate products from the Cafe and/or the Store while they can see students working inside the kitchen at the centre of the building. It is also where visitors can learn about the chocolate industry in the Exhibition Lounge, a space with educational booths, a wall game with touch sensitive lights and a sculputure of a Cacao Tree under big cloud lights.
The second level (upper floor) is restricted to the public. Only students and staff can go up to the Chocolate School, where there is a bigger kitchen, a traditional classroom, resources area, small cafeteria and a patio with live plants.
Analysing the vertical relationship between floor levels with sections that cut through the entire building.
Visualizing how users would experience the built environment.
