Mechanical Engineering Technician
Program Overview
Humber’s Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma program provides you with the necessary skills to design and manufacture mechanical systems and subsystems. You will learn the design concepts with the most advanced softwares and work with the most updated technologies in advanced manufacturing. The curriculum covers the theory and the skills required for:
- advanced manufacturing technologies
- design of engineering systems
- engineering and project management
- mechanical maintenance
- modelling of mechanical systems
- programming (CNC) machine tools using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software
- quality control
The curriculum includes courses in solid mechanics, mechanical design, hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), maintenance techniques and manufacturing. You will be able to develop and implement design and manufacturing procedures to produce engineering systems.

Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:
- Complete all work in compliance with current legislation, standards, regulations and guidelines.
- Apply quality control and quality assurance procedures to meet organizational standards and requirements.
- Comply with current health and safety legislation, as well as organizational practices and procedures.
- Apply sustainability* best practices in workplaces.
- Use current and emerging technologies* to support the implementation of mechanical engineering projects.
- Analyze and solve mechanical problems by applying mathematics and fundamentals of mechanical engineering.
- Interpret, prepare and modify mechanical engineering drawings and other related technical documents.
- Contribute to the design and the analysis of mechanical components, processes and systems applying fundamentals of mechanical engineering.
- Manufacture, assemble, maintain and repair mechanical components according to required specifications.
- Verify the specifications of materials, processes and operations to support the design and production of mechanical components.
- Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects.
- Develop strategies for ongoing personal and professional development to enhance work performance.

Humber College was thrilled to welcome 9 international students from India’s Parul University on June 22 as part of the summer exchange program between both institutions.

According to the Canadian Government’s Working in Canada website, the outlook for jobs in this field is positive. “Due to a concentration of employers such as power plants, large automotive manufacturers and other transportation and goods manufacturers, openings for mechanical engineers should remain steady,” says the report.
Graduates find employment in areas related to mechanical design, manufacturing, testing, consulting and service industries, as well as in machine tool sales and service departments. Demand is growing for graduates in fields related to the sustainable economy and in consulting engineering particularly for companies engaged in infrastructure projects.
