LOFT Community Services

Paige Emery, Julia Gregoris

LOFT Community Services is a non profit organization located in Toronto that supports people who live with mental, physical and substance use challenges. Their goal is to help those who face these challenges to live independently by the help of their counselling services. The coordinators at LOFT were looking to re-design their waiting room and three counselling offices to better function for themselves and for their clients. As a team, Julia and Paige volunteered to help LOFT by using their skills learned at Humber College in the Interior Design program. Site visits were organized to view and measure the space before going forward with the re-design process. Design elements were also discussed upon site visits as well as the importance of the space to feel calm and safe for those who suffer with anxiety. Julia and Paige took the information gathered and developed a mood board to show the client before progressing toward floor plan development. Once themselves and the coordinators were on the same page, floor plans were drawn out that incorporated all the necessary design elements. After the plans were finalized, they produced 3D models to provide the coordinators with visuals of furniture and equipment selection, decor and colour choices. All furniture and equipment was sourced, priced and sent out to the coordinators at the facility. After Julia and Paige’s work was complete, they were able to take our plans, 3D renderings and budgeting charts to donators who would contribute money toward the re-design in hopes of improving the LOFT community.
