The four essential pillars encompass human-centric design approach and the understanding of full-bodied, three dimensional physical interaction of user, product and environment. The projects generate innovative solutions using research-driven, evidence-based designs which focus on the user experience.
Enhancement of Human Lifestyle
Alt is a specialized compression undershirt designed for children with Down syndrome.
Alt provides easy and fast acting sensory stimulation whenever and wherever the child requires. By providing discrete sensory stimulation the child can participate in more activities with peers.
Human-Interaction & User-Centric Design
Alt uses a combination of compression, body perception altering vibration patterns, and fidget activities to provide the user with sensory relief.
Ergonomics & Human Factors Design
Alt is made to fit the individual snug to the torso and comes in a range of sizes from XXS to XXL.
Sustainability & Social Responsibility
Most compression wear is made from nylon, a material that drastically harms the environment.
However, Alt's main body is made from a recycled polyester and organic elastane blend. Using Eco-LYCRA , a renewable fibre derived from corn dextrose, and recycled polyester, Alt is able to be sustainable as well as functional.
Alt - Down Syndrome Sensory Support
Project Summary
Sensory processing difficulties impact many people, but is often overlooked, especially in individuals with Down syndrome, often chalked up to the child being bored and behaving badly. However, the sensory issues these individuals face cause physical and emotional stress and the behaviours expressed are just ways of attempting to cope. Alt is designed to provide the sensory feedback these children are craving in a discreet and healthy way. The goal is to create a solution that empowers the child and provides them the opportunity to participate in all the joyous activities that come with being a child.
