Jaaziel Codogan
My name is Jaaziel Codogan. I was born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago. Often, I would find myself disappointed by the lack of quality and functionality of products I used daily. It frustrated me to the point where I decided to begin building products myself. This marked the beginning of my design journey. Industrial Design has had a profound impact on my life because it gave me the freedom and the skillset to create innovative products and/or improve upon already existing products. With my entrepreneurial spirit and industrial design skillset, I intend to design products that will not only improve the lives of others but inspire the younger generation to consider the craft as a viable future. To me, being a designer is the ultimate expression of freedom and creativity, that is only limited by one's imagination.

The Four Essential Pillars for Design Excellence
The four essential pillars encompass human-centric design approach and the understanding of full-bodied, three dimensional physical interaction of user, product and environment. The projects generate innovative solutions using research-driven, evidence-based designs which focus on the user experience.
Enhancement of Human Lifestyle
The SpinSaw 360 is a powerful and versatile electrical chainsaw that allows users to safely fell, trim, and prune trees.
The features of the chainsaw are designed to improve worker safety, comfort and performance on the job.
Human-Interaction & User-Centric Design
The SpinSaw 360 incorporates full-bodied interaction design methods to meet the needs of forest industry workers.
The rotational blade improves the user’s ability to tackle trunks as well as access branches in tightly confined areas. This feature helps to improve musculoskeletal health by significantly reducing muscle strain and joint pain.
Ergonomics & Human Factors Design
The Spinsaw 360 was designed referencing dimensions and human factors of 99th percentile males and 1st percentile females to ensure the final design accommodates all body types.
The adjustable rear handle allows users to cut tree trunks and logs without stooping for long periods of time. This feature mitigates the repetitive strain on the user’s lower back and knees.
Sustainability & Social Responsibility
The Spinsaw 360 is all-electric, emission-free, and its noise pollution level is significantly lower than that of gasoline-powered chainsaws.
The device makes use of the environmentally friendly material High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS). This plastic has chemical properties that make it very versatile, cost-effective and impact-resistant, and recyclable.
Spinsaw 360 - Improving Safety for Forestry Workers
Project Summary
According to an article published on the Canadian Occupational Safety website, forestry is regarded as one of the most dangerous industries in Canada. In 2018 the industry suffered eleven fatalities and over one thousand three hundred injury claims. Another article published by the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health stated that extreme weather conditions subject workers to extreme cold and heat conditions which in turn leads to reduced work capacity, heat, stress and dehydration. Treacherous terrain and site factors such as slopes and soil types pose serious dangers to workers and lead to machinery accidents. Falling trees and branches and tree hang-ups pose serious risks to workers. The SpinSaw 360 is a powerful and versatile electrical chainsaw that addresses these safety issues and improves the quality of life of forestry workers.
