The past 4 years of the Industrial Design program has instilled many new positive traits to my workflow and design process. It has also allowed me to explore new interests and has led me to discover what I am passionate about such as, fashion, footwear and automotive design. As I continue on in my career I hope to be a forever learner and hone in my skills as well as develop new ones, expanding my design horizons.
The four essential pillars encompass human-centric design approach and the understanding of full-bodied, three dimensional physical interaction of user, product and environment. The projects generate innovative solutions using research-driven, evidence-based designs which focus on the user experience.
I.C.A. will benefit the wearer through increased overall health.
The compression offered to the user will decrease swelling and inflammation through an increase in blood flow. This will help mitigate pain and stress commonly felt in working in the health care system.
I.C.A. will be operated using an app based system as well as a reactionary system.
This compression apparatus will react to the users needs based on fatigue levels gathered through muscle electrodes. The wearer can also customize the level of compression via bluetooth using the app.
During the development of I.C.A., movements of nurses and common tasks have been carefully studied in order to inform any design decisions.
Adaptive compression modules were designed to cover high wear and tear muscle groups in the body.
I.C.A. follows sustainable practices through the materials being used. 71% of all materials used in I.C.A. can be recycled and are made from sustainable materials.
Currently the health of nurses working in the hospital environments is being neglected. An increased amount of stress, fatigue and other detriments quickly add to the decline of the overall health of these nurses. The goal of this thesis is to shift the way of thinking of the current health care system by not only focusing on the patients being treated but also taking into account the health of those providing care. I.C.A. seeks to mitigate common pains and stress felt by healthcare workers and better their well-being in the workplace.
This video describes why this thesis project is so vital for nurses working in the current state of the world. The statistics state how badly this population of the workforce needs attention, and how I.C.A. (Intelligent Compression Apparatus) can help mitigate such pains.
I.C.A. (Intelligent Compression Apparatus) was created using a combination of CLO3D and Solidworks for CAD Modelling. These two powerful programs were vital for creating both renderings and animations for visual presentations.
