Hi, My name is Luca Domenis. I was born and raised in Etobicoke, Ontario. My passion is to create products that can positively impact the lives of people. I was drawn to the design field through my interest in the products that I personally own, and the innovative products being designed all around the world. I am very interested in science fiction, and it has been one of my main sources of inspiration throughout these past four years. I believe that I can one day help to create a positive change in people's lives through product design.
The four essential pillars encompass human-centric design approach and the understanding of full-bodied, three dimensional physical interaction of user, product and environment. The projects generate innovative solutions using research-driven, evidence-based designs which focus on the user experience.
Lifeline removes the need for earthquake rescue workers to exert unnecessary amounts of energy to carry around their heavy equipment.
This eliminates unwanted strain and stress on their body. Lifeline supports the users arms and back, providing them with increased safety while maintaining a full range of motion. A robotic walker can follow the user around and store the invaluable tools and equipment that they require during their mission.
The Lifeline earthquake rescue system is designed to adapt with its user.
Every moving component in the system is adjustable to work with the user's body size. Articulated support arms attach to the users forearm by tightly securing an armband in place. The tool arm located at the users waist allows them to carry their modular rescue tool hands free. Interchangeable tool tips can be stored and swapped at the back of the robotic walker.
A modular tool with three different tips can be mounted to the tool arm, and is fully functional while attached to the arm.
The tool arm offers a large range of articulation. The tool itself can be comfortably held with two hands by the handle at the back, and the bar near the front. Both touch points include a soft touch material that adds additional comfort for holding the tool during long periods of time.
Lifeline is intended to have a long life span. Because of this, the sustainability of this product will focus on its long term reusability.
Applying sustainable practices to the manufacturing of this product will benefit both the environment and the user experience. Materials were chosen that are suitable for the products intended work conditions, while also being recyclable and environmentally friendly. Manufacturing processes were chosen to be sustainable and utilize recycled plastics and
Rescue workers undergo tremendous amounts of stress throughout earthquake search and rescue missions. Making their jobs easier and more efficient can result in a greater amount of lives saved by them. Lifeline is an earthquake search and rescue system designed for being used during earthquake search and rescue missions. This system includes a wearable harness that supports the users arms and back, while still providing them with a full range of motion. A modular tool can be connected to a support arm on the user's waist. The articulated arm allows a tool to be held upright without the user needing to exert any unnecessary energy to carry it. The tool itself has three different tips that can be interchanged and stored within a robot that walks alongside its user.
