Overview

The Budget Roomba an affordable low-cost portable vacuum. There is a lot of similar product on the market but at the very high cost. To provide a cost-effective vacuum an alternative cheaper version was created. The device uses different sensors and components to achieve this goal. The device uses a distance sensor that checks for obstacles to avoid collection, it also has motor-driven wheels and a fan all controlled by an Arduino. If an object has been detected from the distance sensor, information will be sent to Arduino which sends the instruction to the wheels to avoid the detected obstacle. Data acquired from the sensor will be sent to a real-time database, Google Firebase. The database stores and keeps logs of the data it receives from the sensors and then makes it available to the Android application. The android application uses the data store to send instructions to the device. The Android application displays the most updated distance of an obstacle that was detected. The device has the ability to allow users to check the status and start or stop the device anywhere in the world providing there is an internet connection both to the device and users Android device with the app.
