Overview

The food service industry, specifically the restaurant industry has been experiencing great advancements in IoT applications to simplify systems and services offered. Many companies and restaurants have been investing deeply in application development and sensor-based services but this is still in its preliminary stages. The main challenge is to automate more of the popular as necessary services offered in a restaurant environment.

The Table Clear (which is based on the Table Ready, a reservations and seating management system that turns Smartphones into pagers) will offer real-time monitoring and management of new customer data entered from the app after authentication via the mobile network to Firebase from anywhere once there is data availability. The database will be used for reservations, managing their waiting times and providing information to the manager conveniently formed on an app or web portal. Current and existing customers in the restaurant will generate data captured by strategically placed GPS, touch and chair occupancy sensors to automatically update restaurant managers when tables become free for customers on the waiting list. This data will be sent over the restaurant’s WiFi network to the NoSql online database application Firebase. This will hold all of the sensors’ data received and provide real-time availability on both the Table Clear Android application as well as a web portal. The web portal is developed by original creators, hence no need for us to design. The application will display the most recent data entries, allowing users (customers and managers) to check histories and other information.
