Overview

Portable devices are very prevalent in today’s world. Being able to measure and monitor different aspects of everyday life is a staple of these types of devices. For this purpose, we are developing a simple smart watch that includes a heartbeat monitor and a pedometer. The device monitors the user’s heartbeat, as well as counting the steps the user takes while wearing it. The device is small enough to strap it on the wrist and is powered by a battery to make it portable. The device connects to an android app via Bluetooth and sends the information directly to the phone. The app monitors the status of the device and displays all the compiled information for the user to see. The app sends the compiled information to a database and allows the user to see previous records as well as save all the information under a username. The app allows the user to set desired goals regarding the measurements and check if those goals have been met. The device does not directly connect to a WIFI network because this would reduce its portability. Bluetooth is used to connect the app and device and maintain the portability of the entire system. The app stores data temporarily in case the phone is not able to reach the database and it will update the database when it connects again.
