Overview

The Lumi Monitor is an IOT baby monitor with the purpose of aiding new parents with the stressful task of monitoring the wellbeing of their newborn infant. The Lumi Monitor is a baby mobile that will hang above the baby, monitoring and recording important information about the baby and the environment of the room. This information is relayed to a database and retrieved by the Lumi Monitor app to view for the user’s convenience.

The data recorded includes the room temperature and humidity, room light level, motion in the vicinity, the sleep time of the baby, and the time that the baby has been fed. This data is stored on a database hosted on Google’s Firebase. The Android application has a connection to this database and will format this information on easy to read graphs. The Lumi Monitor will also contain a camera which will be used to stream a live feed to the smartphone application, so the parents can get a realtime image of their child’s well-being.

The Lumi Monitor will also help soothe the baby, providing a night-light with customizable led lights from the smartphone app along with a speaker to play preset melodies selected from the smartphone. This device aims to improve the well-being of the child, and to save time and energy for the parents as well as provide them peace of mind regarding their child’s safety and well-being.
