The four essential pillars encompass human-centric design approach and the understanding of full-bodied, three dimensional physical interaction of user, product and environment. The projects generate innovative solutions using research-driven, evidence-based designs which focus on the user experience.
Enhancement of Human Lifestyle
Meets users where they are with the booth designed to be placed where people already regularly visit.
Drop-in consultation to fit the busy schedule of users with same day pickup of glasses using on-site manufacturing. Flexible scheduling for optometrists who may want to work irregular hours or have other commitments.
Human-Interaction & User-Centric Design
Personalized glasses selected and manufactured according to the needs of the user.
Live connection to a real optometrist for sincere human interaction. Guided experience allows for any users to receive a complete consultation with a low barrier to entry.
Ergonomics & Human Factors Design
Automatically adjusting test equipment.
Motorized chair for users with mobility needs. Multiple configurations kiosk for sitting or standing.
Sustainability & Social Responsibility
Renewable bio-plastics used to manufacture glasses.
Reduced emissions from traveling through the use of remote work and on-site manufacturing Recyclable metals such as steel and aluminum used to construct the booth and kiosk.
Halo - Vision Care System
Project Summary
Low income communities in remote and rural areas are not able to receive regular vision care. There is not often enough demand to open a facility in the community and the closest facilities may be a flight away. Combined with busy jobs and a tight schedule, users may neglect vision care entirely. The consequences are that users may suffer chronic diseases worsen without treatment, a general decrease in productivity, and a general lower quality of life. Halo looks to create a viable business to realize the untapped demand in low income remote communities by pairing the accumulative demand in multiple communities and connecting them to on-call optometrists. Halo vision care booths are placed in regularly heavily trafficked areas like malls and community centers for easy access.
