Mariane Tiemi Kawamura studied Architecture in Brazil, her home country. After working with multiple residential renovations, she found a passion for Interior Design and decided to further her studies at Humber College which has been the best decision of her life. Her educational background provides a solid base to support her ideations. She believes in creating functional spaces that reflect the clients' personalities. Her aesthetic is minimal but also far from being dull and predictable. Designing for her is about being intentional with your choices and always creating something unique and personal.
This project was designed in partnership with Isabela Morais. It was inspired by our client’s pottery passion, her Australian and Hawaiian roots and her love for the outdoors. The design team focused on creating a calm, relaxing space with earthy tones and a connection with nature. We opted for utilizing raw finishes, textures and a neutral colour palette to achieve that vibe. Rhythm was one of the guiding design principles. We also utilized a lot of curves and organic shapes as it relates to the client’s pottery and gives a soft, cozy, natural feel.
This project was designed in partnership with Isabela Morais. It focuses on a mixture of rustic and elegant components. Having a lot of contrast inspired us to incorporate different opposing elements like dynamic lines and soft curves which creates visual interest and connects with this idea of emphasizing contrast. Industrial pendant light with exposed bricks, metals and a concrete beam bring that rustic style that the family enjoys. However, those were paired with sophisticated furniture pieces with gold finishes and opulent artworks to elevate the space. Custom cabinetry, wood flooring, rough finishes as well as black and gold metal accents were a result of this combination of rustic and refined that led to the creation of "Industrial Elegance".
This project was designed in partnership with Michelle Vilensky, Tatianna Davis and Evit Pola. The focus here was to create a classic look with the wall mouldings, but with a contemporary softness with the furniture choice. Rhythm and balance were the design principles that guided our design vision for this space. Radial Balance is seen with the round table and green chairs. The oval-shaped mirror and the light fixture in the entry bring that asymmetrical balance while the custom millwork, mouldings and railings emphasize the rhythmic aspect of the design. The colour palette is neutral and calming with woods and beiges and we used green as an accent to bring more contrast and emphasis to this space. Overall, the selections are very minimal and trendy but still timeless and sophisticated.
This project was designed in partnership with Isabela Morais. It was designed for Humber College School of Applied Technology and the Barrett Center for Technology Innovation. The project focused on creating a luxurious and dramatic hotel suite within the given budget of $10,000. The furniture selection had to match the approved concept of "room texture". Complementary colours were chosen to create more contrast but paired with neutral tones for a balanced look. Texture and curves were design principles that guided our vision. They were mixed with straight lines to emphasize contrast and create more impact.
