The new agreement continues a strong tradition of joint educational and industry ventures including industry networking initiatives, community outreach, job fairs, experiential learning, volunteer and student ambassadorship opportunities, all aimed at developing skills and competencies for Project Management students, as they embark on their careers. It also exposes students to a large resource pool of Project Sponsors and mentors, through PMI Toronto which boasts more than 5,700 members.

“The relationship between the Project Management Program and PMI Toronto has always been a special one and since the formalization of our relationship, there have been numerous benefits for both Humber College and PMI Toronto,” said Cheryl Francis-Nurse, Program Coordinator, Project Management Post Graduate Program. “These have resulted in many inspirational and rewarding moments for our students, several of whom continue to serve within PMI Toronto in various capacities after graduation. The support has been overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with PMI Toronto.”

Managed by Humber’s Project Management Leadership Club, this partnership benefits all three Project Management Post Graduate Program student intakes annually and reinforces Humber’s commitment to combining theoretical learning with applied, hands-on experience and opportunities to network with industry professionals.

“Higher education-industry collaboration is vital to producing the workforce of the future. One of the best ways to prepare students to become career-ready citizens is to provide them with opportunities to collaborate and network with community and industry professionals,” said Jonathan Kim, Associate Dean, Information & Communications Technology, Humber FAST. “As an Authorized PMI Training Partner, Humber’s partnership with PMI Toronto provides our students with the unique opportunity to learn from industry professionals, giving them the very best chance to succeed personally and professionally as they embark on their career journey.”

“As the second largest Chapter in the world, the Toronto Chapter of the Project Management Institute is committed to engaging and growing the Toronto project management community through the positive impact of our profession,” said Claire Dobbin, Director Academia, PMI Toronto. “Our partnership with Humber’s Project Management Program helps bridge academia with industry mentors and professionals and reinforces our dedication to streamline further our support in higher education that aligns with our strategic priorities and values. We look forward to continuing to support the next generation of project practitioners.”

Established in 2018, this strategic partnership agreement was the culmination among the program’s faculty, Capstone/Leadership Club students and PMI representatives that ultimately launched the Humber PMI-Toronto Student Community. Described as groundbreaking, the relationship between Humber College and PMI is a model for PMI Chapters to replicate with other educational institutions paving the way for the next generation of project management professionals.
