Program Overview

Humber’s new Honours Bachelor of Computer Science - Cybersecurity is designed to produce future-ready leaders equipped to meet the growing global demand for cybersecurity professionals. This program is set apart by its unique integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) directly into the core of cybersecurity education.

By exploring the powerful intersection of AI and cybersecurity, this program emphasizes innovative solutions driven by scalability, efficiency, speed and automation. Graduates will be prepared not only to defend against today’s threats but also to anticipate and mitigate the complex cybersecurity challenges of tomorrow — giving them a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

As the only post-secondary degree program to comprehensively address the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, Humber is uniquely positioned to provide a next generation learning experience. This program is also designed to grow and adapt to the emerging technologies that this new AI era will bring.

Experiential learning is woven throughout the degree through labs, case studies, simulations, projects, mandatory co-operative education (co-op) and an industry-driven capstone project. Through these experiential learning activities, students will become proficient at applying complex cybersecurity concepts and demonstrating communication and reasoning skills appropriate to the needs of the cybersecurity industry. Together, these work-integrated learning experiences ensure that graduates apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, build professional networks, and enter the job market with a distinct advantage prior to graduation.

Developed through extensive collaboration with industry leaders, the curriculum seamlessly integrates technical mastery with strategic leadership. Core courses span cybersecurity, data networks, discrete mathematics and linear algebra, cryptography, network programming, operating systems, ethics and governance frameworks, data and information security, machine learning, database security, secure software development, ethical hacking, and foundations of cloud security. This comprehensive approach ensures graduates are equipped to navigate in the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.

Curriculum

Course list will be available soon.

Work-Integrated Learning

This program features a mandatory co-operative education (co-op) component, which includes three consecutive work terms. These co-op placements offer students invaluable hands-on experience in real-world settings, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, build professional networks and gain a competitive edge in the job market even before graduation.

The co-op component consists of three consecutive, paid four-month work terms, minimum 420 hours each. The 1,260 hour duration allows enough time for students to gain work experience that grows progressively more complex over time, and as their skill level increases.

In addition to the co-op element, the program culminates in a comprehensive, two-semester capstone project that is deeply connected to industry. Thanks to Humber’s strong and long-standing partnerships with leading companies and organizations, students collaborate on real-world problems and develop solutions that meet current industry needs.

The Humber Advantage

State-of-the-art Facilities

Students gain a distinct advantage through access to Humber Polytechnic's state-of-the-art Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (Barrett CTI) — a premier hub for technological advancement and applied research. At the heart of this facility is the Digital Technology Hub, a dynamic collaborative space where students, faculty and industry professionals come together to address real-world cybersecurity challenges.

Equipped with enterprise-grade infrastructure — including a dedicated data centre, advanced cyber range capabilities and specialized tools for penetration testing — the Digital Technology Hub offers a hands-on environment that mirrors the demands of the cybersecurity industry. Students engage directly with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and not-for-profit organizations, helping them bolster their defenses against constantly evolving cyber threats.

By working in this high-tech, real-world setting, students bridge the gap between theory and practice, developing the technical expertise and strategic thinking required to lead cybersecurity efforts in today’s complex digital landscape.

Your Career

The global cybersecurity workforce gap is projected to exceed 3.5 million unfilled positions, creating unprecedented opportunities for qualified professionals at all career stages. In response to this critical shortage, this program prepares you for immediate impact and long-term leadership growth.

This program uniquely positions you for success. Recent graduates gain the technical depth and organizational understanding to excel in roles such as cybersecurity analysts, cybersecurity consultants, cybersecurity managers, cybersecurity specialists, insider threat analysts, cyber risk consultants and information security analysts — while simultaneously developing the strategic perspective that accelerates career progression.

Your comprehensive skill set spanning technical implementation, risk assessment, compliance frameworks and strategic planning makes you attractive to organizations across diverse sectors including financial services, health-care systems, energy and utilities (particularly nuclear and renewable energy), technology companies, government agencies, telecommunications, manufacturing and consulting firms. As you launch your career, you'll possess the rare combination of technical credibility and business acumen that distinguishes tomorrow's cybersecurity leaders.
