Refund Information - Continuous Professional Learning
Generally $25 of the fee is non-refundable unless Humber cancels the course. However, some courses have unique refund policies (such as those offered by the Transportation Training Centre). Please be sure you understand the refund policy before you register.
If Humber cancels the course, a full refund will be granted. If you decide to Drop, Transfer or Withdraw from your course, you must
do this by logging into the CPL Learner Portal before the date listed under Important Dates on this webpage. Drop/Transfer/Withdraw deadlines are also posted in the Learner Portal and are noted in your Registration Receipt email.
Note: Leaving an email or phone message to request a Drop, Transfer or Withdrawal is not acceptable and will not be processed.
There are exceptions to this policy for some courses/programs (such as those offered by the Transportation Training Centre where Drop/Transfer/Withdrawal is permitted up to 21 days prior to the course start date only by written email request submitted to truck.info@humber.ca).
For Refunds, where payment was made by Visa or MasterCard, a credit will be applied to the credit card that was used.

The Construction Project Management certificate program is a Project Management Institute (PMI)® registered program with all courses qualifying for 42 Professional Development Units (PDU's)/contact hours with PMI®.
With the growth of professional project management techniques, it is necessary for construction professionals to update their skills and effectively contribute to continuing the growth of the construction industry in North America. The goal of our program is to provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge and competencies to manage all types of construction projects of varying sizes. Classes are facilitated by industry professionals with an extensive background in the field.
This program is for you if you are a professional working in the field of project management, or if you are aiming to advance in the field of construction. You may be working for a developer, contractor, site manager, supervisor of construction works, estimator or you may be performing the role of resident consultant representative or contract administrator.

CPMC 800Construction Risk Project Management
This Construction Risk Project Management course addresses the critical survival and profitability factors for companies managing projects in the construction industry in an economic environment characterized by uncertainty and change. Subjects covered include identification of skills essential to managing business risk, governance, risk management principles, construction insurance and bonding, risk factors influencing construction estimating, supervision or control of subcontractors or suppliers, schedules, legal and financial policies, and architectural or engineering design of construction projects. The course orientation is based on a problem-solving approach. Participants will use interdisciplinary skills to explore potential risks encountered in construction projects, from concept to completion, including land acquisition, change orders, delay claims, consequential damages, errors and omissions, construction safety issues, the Construction Lien Act, project closeout, and handover. The course will also cover proactive strategies for planning adequate risk responses. The Construction Project Planning course addresses the methodologies, tools and techniques to plan, implement and integrate construction projects. This course covers various aspects of pre-construction planning techniques such as line of balance, bar charts, critical path method (CPM) and program evaluation review technique (PERT). Learners are shown the developer's and contractor's perspectives on implementation management by deploying the tools for effective construction project implementation including selecting the appropriate project organization and staff, and providing procedures for ensuring construction site health and safety requirements. Project integration procedures are covered involving the people, process, tools and support aspects as well as a range of industry methodologies applied to construction project management. Hands-on practical exercises are used to cover the fundamental concepts of the course. Construction project managers require two critical competencies that are instrumental in achieving customer satisfaction: construction project cost and economic value management. Accurate cost estimates form the essential foundation upon which all aspects of construction project pricing, budgeting and cost control are built. This course covers the various categories of construction cost estimating techniques and the cost management processes required to ensure that overall cost targets are achieved. Value management complements cost management through value analysis techniques that allow cost reductions to be made without sacrificing project scope. Participants will practise value analysis techniques and applications using practical construction examples. This course addresses the regulatory aspects of construction projects and covers procurement processes, focusing on acquisition of materials, equipment, labour and professional services. It covers contracts and associated risk, negotiations, transportation, expediting of procured items, changes to purchase orders and contract administration. Ethical standards in purchasing, regulatory requirements and contract law will be covered. Participants will be able to describe the concepts of professional practice and explain the potential liabilities that construction project managers may be exposed to. Practical examples from the construction industry will be used to discuss, analyze and apply procurement solutions to project scenarios. Participants will also review contract and procurement strategies that may be applied to reducing project risk and making sound economic decisions. CPMC 804Development Economics for Construction Projects
This course identifies economic factors that significantly influence construction projects - introducing learners to the application of various economic analysis techniques such as project feasibility studies, lifecycle cost analysis, estimating, and cost planning and cost control techniques that will facilitate making sound construction economic decisions. Students will be able to explain the application of microeconomics concepts to project decisions. This course will be case study driven to demonstrate the principles discussed in the classroom. CPMC 805Fundamentals of Construction Project Management
This course covers the principles and the practice of professional project management applied to construction projects. It emphasizes a total life cycle perspective, treating the construction project as an investment opportunity. Learners are taken through the construction project life cycle describing the roles of tradespersons, environmental and planning regulations, commissioning and close out. Topics include the project development life cycle; project strategies; plan, cost and budgeting; pre-and post-contract processes; managing the project through to completion; and investment realization. A case study involving an office development or renovation project will be used to demonstrate the principles discussed in the classroom.
