Students from FAST’s engineering programs held a kick-off event in November, to establish the inaugural Women in Engineering Club. The idea was initiated by Samara Ocansey, a second-year student in the Bachelor of Engineering, Sustainable Building program.
The vision of the club is “to build a strong and supportive community for engineering students who identify as female. The goals are to create a space where students can connect with one another, foster mentorship opportunities, and organize events that champion diversity and inclusion in the field of engineering. The club has the potential to empower current female engineering students and serve as an inspiration for future generations to pursue careers in engineering.”
In addition to informal gatherings, the Club is aiming to bring students together and plan an event on March 8, 2024, International Women’s Day.
The Club is sponsored by Shaun Ghafari, Dean of Engineering, and supported by Janice Wojcik, Manager of Work-Integrated Learning.
