Title of Project: Live Data Visualizer
Tell Us About Your Project?
This project aimed to facilitate the demonstration of survey data for the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness. The data from surveys are automatically collected and stored in a database sheet; then with Microsoft PowerBi we made a live connection to the database and designed a dashboard to display meaningful data with superior presentation that faculty could analyze and improve the experience of clients and use the at-glance dashboard for their scheduled meetings. The initiative was to transform raw and ambiguous data into something with purpose and meaning.
What Were Some of the Most Important Things You Learned?
During this journey, we learned a combination of soft and technical skills which lead us towards self-improvement and the success of the project. At the beginning, data visualization and front-end design was a brand-new topic to us. We learned how to use different data visualizers to convert raw data into manageable graphs in a user-friendly and easy to understand environment. Time management, attention to detail and presentation skills were also some of the notable soft skills that we improved in order to deliver the project on time and flawless. With that said, out of all the skills that we developed during this journey, we realized that presentation is definitely a crucial skill. No matter how good the project is, a weak presentation and introduction are enough to prevent the work and effort to not stand out.
What Advice Would You Give to Other Students Interested in Your Program?
Doesn’t matter what the project is about or how good you are at it, just start, and figure the things out later. Everyone has enough time to figure out if the work their doing is for them or not. Time management is important by slicing the project into different phases and setting deadlines for each phase. There are some decent tools out there that can be helpful. Use G chart and improve your presentation skills as much as you can.
