Humber programs offer unique work-integrated learning opportunities to prepare students for their future careers. Students apply what they’ve learned in class and in real world environments through a wide range of academic, community and industry partnerships. These work-integrated and experiential learning opportunities may include field placements, practicums, clinical placements, co-operative education work terms, internships, applied research projects, or service learning.

Hiring Incentives for Employers

Student Work Placement Program (SWPP)

Employers can apply for wage subsidies to help them hire post-secondary students across Canada in paid work experiences related to their field of study. Employers could receive up to 50% to a maximum of $5,000 per placement or up to 70% (up to a maximum of $7,000 per placement) for under-represented groups including first year students, women in STEM, indigenous students, persons with disabilities and newcomers. Both the Student and the Employer must meet eligibility requirements to receive this funding.

PLEASE NOTE: Updated temporary flexibility measures in response to the current challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ESDC is introducing the following changes to SWPP effective immediately until March 31, 2022.

Automotive Parts Manufacturer's Career Ready Fund Program (APMA CRF)

Automotive Parts Manufacturer's Career Ready Fund Program (APMA CRF): This program helps with the cost of hiring students while building a pipeline to support talent growth and attraction to the sector. Employers will receive $3000.00 per placement, and $5000.00 per placement if the participant has a disability. A single placement lasts 10 weeks to 4 months, and participants may qualify for up to 3 placements in a calendar year.

Co-operative Education Tax Credit (CETC)

The Co-operative Education Tax Credit is a refundable tax credit, available to employers who hire students enrolled in a designated co-operative education program. The tax credit is based on salaries and wages paid to a student in a co-operative education work placement. Ontario corporations can claim 25 per cent of eligible expenditures (30 per cent for small businesses). The maximum credit for each work placement is $3,000. Most work placements are for a minimum employment period of 10 weeks up to a maximum of four months. For more information, please Contact Us or visit the Ontario Ministry of Finance website.
