For my final thesis project, I have designed the Pink Hammer Trades Training Centre for Women. This skilled trades training Centre is designed "For women, by women" to provide a safe learning environment for tradeswomen in the fields of carpentry, electrical and plumbing. This facility was designed to encourage more women to enter the skilled trades which is currently a male dominated field. There are accommodations available on-campus such as a café, a retail shop and a daycare to allow for convenience for the working woman.
The Pink Hammer Trades Training Centre for Women is a safe and effective learning environment for women involved in the skilled trades of carpentry, electrical and plumbing. The two level facility includes a retail shop on the lower level called "Hammer Time", which is the first retail store that provides a variety of clothing, tools and personal protective equipment specifically designed for tradeswomen. There is also an on-campus daycare, a café and a counseling office to provide social and psychological services to increase mental health wellness.
The concept of the design is womanhood. The central two-level workshop represents unity where the main learning occurs, meanwhile, outside of the central hub is where gatherings and social interactions take place.
