Through my academic background, I have developed both practical and theoretical knowledge on the industry. I am passionate, goal oriented and excel in fast pace environments. I have developed first hand experience working with computer programs like AutoCAD, Revit and SketchUp to support my studio projects. My passion for Hospitality Design inspired me to develop The Rivulet Hotel for my Thesis Project. The design focuses on creating an environment that provides both travelers and locals a social space structured for networking/business.

Project Overview

The purpose of this study was to examine the needs and desires of both employees and hotel guests, in order to facilitate the design of a Coworking Hotel. The aim was to explore the benefits of integrating collaborative work spaces, in conjunction with technology, to increase productivity levels in a hotel setting. The goal was to design a hotel that provides both travelers and locals a social environment structured for networking and business. This ties in with my concept of human connection by creating a space that brings people together in a social setting and creating a dynamic that is suitable for the downtown core.

Concept/Design Process

A prominent piece of Riversides history lies with the fast flowing Don River. In the 18th century, Its existence connected British settlers who maintained residency along the shores of the valley. The river became the main destination for selling timber, hay and crops. In the 1800’s oil factories, processing plants and brickyards began dominating the land. The river identifies a symbol of growth and connection. It was the main factor in the development of Riverside. The Don River inspires the connection and flow of the hotel, providing a unique curve like experience. As the land was always utilized for business purposes, the hotel continues this legacy by providing many workspaces, social spaces and touchdown areas to keep the connection alive within the community.

Site Plan/Floor Plans

The location for The Rivulet Hotel is located at 415 Eastern Avenue in the neighbourhood of Riverside. The building is approximately 15, 000 square feet and sits on the South side of the road. The Site was thoroughly studied along with a few other potential buildings, however The Eastern Avenue Showroom was proven to be the most suitable space for a hotel. Another reason behind selecting this location was due to the new development of the East Harbour project. East Harbour will be an exciting addition that will create a new, connected community by building new office, retail, and entertainment components adjacent to a new transit hub. Adding a coworking hotel will support all the new upcoming amenities.
