LEARNING PATHWAYS

Humber College offers a variety of programs at the certificate or diploma levels, through apprenticeships training, full-time day or continuing education (night school) studies. The following chart shows the many pathways available.

  1. While attending High School, OYAP students could start their apprenticeship by working in the industry or enroll in the Level 1 in-school session at Humber College.

  2. In lieu of first getting a job in the industry, OSSD graduates may be sponsored by the trade organization, Landscape Ontario, to begin their Level 1 in-school training.

  3. Students, who have successfully completed the Level 1 and the Level 2 sessions of the Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship program, will be granted exemption for the first year of the 2-year Landscape Technician Co-op Diploma Program or Landscape Technician Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship with the exception of the following courses: LAND120, LAND200, COMM213 and COMM313. Exemption will be granted for COMM313 when the student successfully completes HCAP161 (Workplace Communications) and COMM213 with a final mark of 80% or higher in both courses. Students who successfully complete LAND120 and LAND200 or LAND221 on a part-time basis prior to semester 3, can go directly to second year.

  4. Students who have successfully completed the Landscape Maintenance and Development Certificate program, will be exempted from approximately 60% to 70% of the first year of the 2 year Landscape Technician Diploma Program or Landscape Technician Co-op Apprenticeship Diploma.

  5. Students in the Urban Arboriculture Certificate program can apply for transfer to the Arborist Apprenticeship program if they are working in the industry and are sponsored by their employer.

  6. Students will be given credit for the equivalent diploma courses for all the night school courses, which they have successfully completed.

  7. Humber College has transfer agreements with many universities for those students who wish to pursue a degree, including our own degree programs. Refer to our university transfer guide.
