Our goal is to prepare technicians in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration engineering technologies who can meet the challenges of rapidly advancing new technologies. Students will get opportunities to be placed in areas to get real job experience.
Increasingly, HVAC technicians enter a building not with a tool box, but with a laptop computer. Our programs focus on giving you the basic skills to design and service HVAC equipment, by using the latest industry software programs. You will also learn how to use and interpret industry specific testing and measuring devices.
Today’s residential central air conditioning systems are up to 35 per cent more energy efficient than those that were typically installed in the past. As this sector continues to address Canadians’ concerns about rising energy prices and the environment, there will be ongoing opportunities for you to work with design contractors in designing, installing, servicing and retrofitting heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HRAC) equipment. As well, you could choose to work as a sales representative, specifications writer or service representative. With further experience, you could become an estimator, working with plans and specifications to determine material and labour requirements in preparation of contract bids.
