Materials and Methods Mass Timber

Course Code: ARC 216

Academic Year: 2018-2019

This course covers engineered wood products (EWP) using mass timber construction as a reference point. The topics include framing using large panelized solid wood construction, such as cross-laminated timber (CLT) and nail laminated timber (NLT) panels, as well as glue laminated timber (glulam) and other forms of structural composite lumber (SCL) for columns, beams, floor and wall framing. Hybrid wood-concrete and wood-steel construction will also be reviewed. The construction materials are examined as they relate to product manufacturing, properties, characteristics, types, function, uses, application, performance, fire resistance ratings, sustainable design principles and job-site installation procedures.
